Lake Laut Tawar (indonesian: Danau Laut Tawar) is a lake and a tourist area located in Gayo Highlands, Central Aceh Regency, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.
Lake Laut Tawar is called with the name of the sea due to the territorial waters of the Lake is very broad. So a Fresh name, because water that was in the Lake is a freshwater. "Laut" means the sea and "Tawar" means freshwater.
The existence of Lake Laut Tawar is very vital because in addition to a frequently visited by both domestic and foreign tourists, is also used as a source of water for the Central Aceh Regency and some other districts in the vicinity.
The beautiful scenery at Lake Laut Tawar is making it a popular tourist destination in Central Aceh Regency. This Lake has crystal clear water colored bluish. Surrounded by green hills, the landscape here has become increasingly fantastic in the eyes of the visitors.
Lake Laut Tawar is also known to have a very high biological diversity. The Lake is home to three species of mollusks, 37 species of fish up to 49 kinds of insects. Not only that, the forestry area around the Lake is also home to a variety of rare animals like cunt, pangolin, kancil, Gibbon, Bobcat and etc.
